Upon completion of this spell, you alter a creature so that they become your willing servant. Their attitude towards you is set to helpful for the rest of their life, regardless of how you treat them or what happens to them. They will attempt to complete your requests or demands without hesitation to the best of their ability, as if anything that you ask for carried the weight of a ''suggestion'' with unlimited duration. They are not automatons however, and retain their will and personality. They can pause or stop a task at any time without prompting, follow complex instructions, and exercise their own judgement in how to carry out a request if not expressly ordered not to. This may lead to some suboptimal resolutions, but they will never intentionally subvert your requests as they actually ''want'' to serve you as you direct. As a result, this condition may not be detected by a sense motive or similar check. This change is instantaneous, and may not be reverted by anything less than a ''[[SRD:Wish|wish]]'' or ''[[SRD:Miracle|miracle]]''. Even then, they must succeed on a caster level check against a DC of 15 + your caster level to reverse the effect.

You also gain a mental connection with a thrall, similar to that gained with a dominated creature. So long as they are on the same plane as you are, you have a general sense of what the thrall is experiencing and how they are feeling. You can also focus on a thrall as a standard action to get a more detailed description of their situation (generally about 30 words in 1-2 sentences). You do not gain the ability to communicate with them telepathically, however. This effect is permanent, and it may be suppressed by any effect that would suppress magic or an ability to exercise mental control over a subject (like ''protection from evil''). Death of the thrall also suppresses the link indefinitely, though it is restored if they should return to life in some fashion. If may also be dispelled, but it returns 5d6 minutes later.

This link may also be disjoined, which will permanently sever it. You may also sever a thrall's link with you as a full-round action. When you do so they must succeed on a will saving thrown with a DC of 20 + 1 per year spent as a thrall or be unwilling to take any actions at all, including those required for self-preservation. A creature who fails this save thus sits or lies down and waits to die. Those who succeed on this save are depressed at their rejection and abandonment, but they are capable of taking actions and making plans. Many attempt to have this spell cast on them again to regain the connection, and may ignore requests or actively disrupt the caster in an attempt to receive it.

You may possess multiple thralls through multiple castings of this spell, but the total EL of your thralls may not exceed your caster level -4. A bound cohort does not count against this limit, however. If binding a new thrall would cause you to exceed this amount, you must sever links to enough thralls that you no longer exceed this value.
