Contact shots can be performed with projectile weapons, but are typically associated with crossbows and guns.  It is a shot at point blank range that involves moving into the opponent's square (provoking attacks of opportunity) and attacking in the same action.  You do not provoke for the act of firing your weapon, as it's part of the movement attack of opportunity.  The creature is denied it's [[Dexterity]] bonus from a contact shot.
