== Biosteel ==

Produced in a laboratory by unknown meals, this dull gray substance in its most basic form is a semi-solid metal gel.  Though various means it can be coaxed into small hexagonal cells and bound with water, fats, salts, acids, and heavy metals producing what could be described as a "cybernetic cell".  These cells are capable of living, reproducing, and dying in the same way living cells would, though they often have different requirements and a diet far richer in heavy metals than most.  Biosteel is very responsive to magnetic charges and can alter its solidity, density, and shape based on its exposure to certain bio-electrical signals.  This makes them great muscles and potential memory storage devices, the data literally encoded into the body of every cell.

However, none of these effects occur naturally for the moment unless programmed into the cell's behavior itself.  This programming aspect is likely the next step in its development, but at its basic form it only forms substances analogous to plant fiber and muscle.  Though metallic it is soft enough to eat, and organic beings which eat biosteel slowly build up the substance in their body.  After 1 month of constant ingestion of biosteel, a biological creature will be 5% heavier than normal and have several key parts of their body visibly afflicted by metal content.  They count as a Warforged and a Construct for the purpose of interacting with feats, grafts, and items.  If consumption continues after a year and a day they will have increased their weight by 20% and now be considered a member of their original type and a Construct whenever beneficial.  They gain the Living Construct's trait of being able to be healed through ''repair'' spells, but take half benefit from ''cure'' spells and positive energy healing.

The substance is about 20% heavier than the equivalent biological structure it mimics, yet stronger and more durable to compensate, and tastes slightly of iron.  It is capable of dying and spoiling, spoiling at half the rate of meat and being reduced to organic slurry and rust.  It counts as a metal for the purpose of interacting with spells and effects.

Biosteel currently has no uses in weapons or armorsmithing, as it is far too soft and not much better than hide or bone in spite of its metallic nature.

If used as a material component to any [Summoning] spell, it summons a creature composed of biosteel.  They have the properties of a creature which has fed on biosteel for a year and a day (see above), and gain bonus hit points as a Construct of its size, but reduces the duration by half.

If used in the creation of an object with the [[Orgacraft (3.5e Equipment)|orgacraft]] item template, it allows a second template to be added besides orgacraft.

Biosteel goes for about [[Cost::6g]] per pound, 6g for use as a material component, or 300g in the creation of orgacraft items.  As food it is consumed at half a pound per day (180g for about month, 2160g for about year and a day).
