The target becomes fatigued (or exhausted if already fatigued) and they fall asleep, and begins experiencing a dreadfully intense nightmare from which they cannot wake.  No mundane means can wake the target, though any effect which can lift curses can wake the victim (but not cure them of their affliction).  They will sleep a full 8 hours if not awoken earlier.  A successful save still afflicts the nightmare curse, but does not force the target to sleep or become fatigued.

One round after they have fallen asleep due to this spell or naturally, the nightmare begins and they must make another [[Will]] save or die.  On a successful save they remain alive but cannot recover from fatigue or exhaustion by mundane means.

If they ever fall unconscious, they begin to have nightmares as if they fell asleep.  This is a curse, and can only be cursed by ''[[SRD:Break Enchantment|break enchantment]]'' and stronger effects.
