The king has heard of a great obelisk that towers over a ruined city in a far country. He wants to know more about the obelisk and its strange powers. Your job is to find the obelisk and bring back a report to the king. The mission seems absurdly easy...until you reach the jungle. 

Don't think the king is through with you if you get back to the capital city alive. You haven't seen the last of that jungle yet. Is a share in the spoils of an ancient civilization worth the risk?

==Plot Summary==
In Needle, the player characters are dispatched to a far jungle to retrieve a magical obelisk.[1] The characters return to their employers with the obelisk after a perilous journey, and find out that the obelisk is a portal to another world, which the characters must pass through, and learn how to deal with the residents on the other side.

In this adventure, the player characters volunteer for a king to explore a dense jungle that was once home to a great civilization, with a magic obelisk at its center. In Part 1, Ruins of Empire, the party travels to the jungle and explores the ruins. In Part 2, Retrieval, the party leads a team hampered by disease and jungle animals to transport the obelisk to the king. In Part 3, The Powers That Be, assuming the party is successful, the obelisk is placed in its new position, where it reveals a gate to another world.

I11 Needle was written by Frank Mentzer, with a cover by Clyde Caldwell and interior illustrations by Doug Chaffee, and was published by TSR in 1987 as a 48-page booklet with two outer folders.
