The War Macuahuitl is a heavy hand-and-a-half version of the Macuahuitl and is usable in two hand, as well as in one hand but with some disadvantage due to the weapon's lenght and weight. While the War Macuahuitl is usually featured with six to eight obsidian blades on each side, the War Macuahuitl usually has fourteen to sixteen blades on each side. It has all the heft of a club and the cutting power of a sword without the use of any metal parts, making it an ideal weapon in pre-smithing civilizations. Its obsidian edge is sharp enough to slice through bone, and its club body could be used to injure without breaking skin. A wielder can turn the War Macuahuitl on its side and deal only bludgeoning damage without taking any penalty to attack.

A War Macuahuitl is too large to use in one hand without special training; thus, it is an exotic weapon. A character can use a War Macuahuitl two-handed as a martial weapon.
