Spoopwood[edit]
Deadwood is spooky enough, but sometimes it becomes so spooky and creepy it flips right around to being comical. Harvested in the depths of scarytown, on the night of Halloween during a full moon, by skeletons wielding evil aligned axes forged by ghouls, demons, and witches, while scary music plays causes deadwood to convert to a truly spoopy form known as spoopwood.
Any weapon primarily composed of wood can be made as a spoopwood weapon. Wielding it grants a +8 competence bonus to Intimidate checks. Whenever a creature perishes is automatically reduced to a skeletal state. If the creature is your CR -4 or greater, its automatically animated as a skeleton if possible who serves for 1 minute. This does not add to your control pool and it crumbles into bones at the end, but if you sacrifice the required onyx you can make it a permanent undead minion who is subject to your control pool as normal. If used as a focus, it adds +1 DC to any spells that use fear. Weapons made of spoopwood gain a 10% discount on any enhancements which deal with ability damage, ability drain, energy drain, or negative energy. Spoopwood has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 6.
Armor and shields can also be made with spoopwood. Such armor is very spoopy, and mindless uncontrolled undead do not naturally attack you. Like the weapon you gain +8 bonus to competence Intimidate checks. You are treated as wearing ghost touched armor or shield, and you gain your armor or shield bonus as a resistance bonus against negative energy (or positive energy if you are undead). Armor and shields stack. Armor made of spoopwood gain a 10% discount on any enhancements which deal with turn resistance, protection against positive energy, or bolstering undead.
Spoopwood needs special preparation so all weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Thus, spoopwood weapons and ammunition have a +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls, and the armor check penalty of spoopwood armor is lessened by 1 compared to ordinary armor of its type.
Type of Spoopwood Item | Item Cost Modifier |
---|---|
Ammunition | +100 gp |
Armors and Shields | +2000 gp + (AC bonus squared x 100 gp) |
Weapon | +5000 gp |
