This setting does not lend itself well to some races. Duergar, drow, half-elves, tiefling, and dragonborn have no homelands. I did not let people play them. I would suggest you tell your players the changes that were made to the race in the 5th edition players handbook. The changes are listed in the race section. Also this setting has 3 homebrew races, again these are found in the races section of this setting.

Character Creation

This setting does not lend itself well to some races. Duergar, drow, deep gnomes, half-elves, tiefling, and dragonborn have no homelands. I did not let people play them. I would suggest you tell your players the changes that were made to the race in the 5th edition players handbook. The changes are listed in the race section. Also this setting has 3 homebrew races, again these are found in the races section of this setting.

I ran this having Players start at level 1.

Ability Scores

I let players roll 4 (D-6 sided) dice a total of 6 times, and adding up the highest 3 dice, recording each dice total. They could not re-roll any dice. They then took their 6 rolls and assign them to any stat they wanted. After that, they applied any racial benefits. Picking their class was done usually after they saw their rolls, but some picked ahead of time and applied the stats as needed.

This is how I did it, it is really up to the DM. I am sure most people use these Campaign Setting pages for the setting, not so much for the rules.

Alignments

Yeah, its up to the DM. I did not care what people made.
