By a literal reading of the Kantian paladin's code ("Kantian Paladins may not use mind-affecting effects. Mind-affecting abilities destroy the autonomy of rational creatures."), they're not allowed to use spells like ''Detect Thoughts'' or ''Lesser Telepathic Bond'' because they are Mind-Effecting -- despite the fact that they could potentially add either to their spell list with Divine Inspiration, and despite the fact that neither one actually affects a creature's autonomy in any way. I would suggest changing the wording to specify Compulsion affects rather than mind-affecting, and even then I would add something like 'Without the consent of the spell's target' (because something like ''Calm Emotions'' is also a Compulsion effect).

The wording of this implies that its not a violation of the code to treat ''people'' with deliberate cruelty, only animals. Which is odd as people are the 'rational creatures' that the practice of avoiding cruelty is supposed to help with better behavior towards. --[[User:Chuckg|Chuckg]] ([[User talk:Chuckg|talk]]) 19:05, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Spell list improved[edit]

Deleted: cure minor wounds, guidance, resistance, virtue, dispel magic.

Lowered by 1 level from original: cure light wounds, detect undead, remove fear, cure moderate wounds, delay poison, consecrate, status, continual flame, cure serious wounds, keen edge, magic vestment, cure critical wounds, dimensional anchor, spell immunity.

Lowered by more than 1 level from original: atonement (Frank once said it should be level 1 for a paladin, even), daylight (thought the paladin shouldn't get it later than the jester), mass cure light wounds (obvious reasons), greater dispel magic (fitting the new design principle - I'm partly against it, but see the point), heal (fits at level 4).

Introduced: mass cure moderate/serious/critical wounds.

No mass heal at 6, IMO.

Mind-affecting effects and the Kantian Paladin's Code[edit]

Cruelty and the Kantian Paladin's Code[edit]

"Kantian Paladins must not treat animals and similar creatures with cruelty. Deliberate cruelty deadens the feeling of compassion that promotes moral behavior towards rational creatures."

The wording of this implies that its not a violation of the code to treat people with deliberate cruelty, only animals. Which is odd as people are the 'rational creatures' that the practice of avoiding cruelty is supposed to help with better behavior towards. --Chuckg (talk) 19:05, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
