Pilot controls are one of the two required modules for any vessel (the other being engines), and the basic module is simply a cockpit with a seat for one, with a steering joystick and keypad, as well as a display for information. They can be built internally with camera controls coming through the display, but without such methods they have at least one transparent porthole or window to the greater outside world. A pilot control module must be manned to be functional, either by a pilot or an autonomous crewmember (Autocrew, or Autopilot in this case).
When manned, crew can activate Pilot Actions. They can also activate other modules as if they were actively manning them, but any checks done are made at a -2 penalty. Both a Pilot Action and activation of another module can be done as a full round action. Typically this would be something like flying the ship and activating a single weapon, as the Pilot Controls double as Weapon Controls for a single weapon.
As the Basic model of Pilot Control, it comes with no inbuilt submodules. More expensive versions often come with rudimentary life support functions.
