Focuswand

Focuswand items can be used to replace material components with a focus component. It can even be added to weapons, armors, and shields so you have your focus on hand.

The focuswand template can be added to any item, including armors, shields, weapons, rings, and items which are slotted or unslotted. The item becomes a focus for a spell which normally has expensive material components, and is not consumed in casting. The item is often embedded with the material component in question; a quarterstaff which acts as the focus for raise dead is covered in diamonds, and a ring as a focus for animate dead is studded with onyx. Focuswand items have all the base statistics of the normal item except as noted here.

Requirements

The creator of a focuswand item must be able to cast at least 1 spell with material components greater than 1 gp, as well as at least 10 ranks in the appropriate Craft or 10 ranks in Knowledge Arcana, Nature, Religion, or Psionics.

Focuswand Items

The focuswand template can be added to any item. The item becomes a focus for a spell which normally has expensive material components, and is not consumed in casting.

Cost: The cost of the material component x 50. Spells with variable costs in material components (such as animate dead have you pay the difference of any amount the focuswand item doesn't cover.

For example, raise dead needs 5000 gp in diamonds. It would cost 250,000 gp as a focus. Stoneskin's focus would be 100 x 50, or 5000 gp.

Affinities: None.
