Dragon (Eldritch) Theurge (3.5)

(Complete Mage variant, p. 57)

Fews command the magic of dragonkind. Most of those who have dragon magic burning in their blood become dragon fire adept or dragon shaman, but a rare few study formal magic to better understand and control their powers. The result is the dragon theurge, a master of both spells and invocations, a mage with the terrifying combination of potent spells and a reserve of abilities he can't possibly exhaust.

Requirements Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks Spells: Ability to cast 2nd-level arcane spells. Invocations: Ability to use least invocations. Special: dragon breath +2d6.

Class Features

Spellcasting At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in an arcane spellcasting class (but not an invocation-using class) to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a dragon theurge, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Invocations At each level, you gain new invocations known and an increase in caster level as if you had also gained a level in an invocation-using class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. (This includes dragon breath). You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one invocation-using class before becoming a dragon theurge, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining caster level and invocations known.

Damage Reduction (Su) Fortified by the supernatural power of your ancestral dragon flowing through your body, you become resistant to the energy of your breath attack. You gain damage reduction 1/(fire, cold, acid, etc.) at 1st level; this stacks with damage reduction gained from other sources. Your damage reduction improves to 2/(fire, cold, acid, etc.) at 4th level, to 3/(fire, cold, acid, etc.) at 7th level, and to 4/(fire, cold, acid, etc.) at 10th level.

Draconic Resilience (Su) Beginning at 2nd level, you know the trick of draconic resilience. Once per day, as a free action, you can enter a meditating state, recalling the strength of your dragon ancestors. While in this state, you gain fast healing 1. This state last two minutes (12 rounds). At 9th level, your draconic resilience improves; while in your draconic resilience state, you gain fast healing 2 instead.

Spell breath (Sp) Beginning at 3rd level, you can apply one a day as a free action the effect of one of your spells to your breath weapon. For instance, you can cast as a free action slow spell to add the slow effect to your breath weapon. The effect of the spell remains the same and the saving throw is calculated if it would be the same casted spell. You can apply spell breath only to spells to a level less that the spell that you can cast.

Dragon transformation At 5th level, the dragon theurge one a day as a full round action can transform into a dragon casting the Dragonshape (lesser) as the spell (wizard 6) in Dragon Magic. At 10th level, the dragon theurge one a day as a full round action can transform into a dragon casting the Dragonshape as the spell (wizard 9) in Player’s Handbook II.
