Ancient Beastlord

Either the result of time travel, or living in some lost world or another planet. The ancient beastlord is a primeval type of ranger who is used to facing long-vanished animals of an ancient era. As a result they are tougher and meaner, and are able to tame such beasts… but lack the connection to nature necessary for spells.

Class: Ranger

Level: 1st, 4th, 5th

Replaces: First Favored Enemy, Hunter’s Bond, Spellcasting

Benefit: A ancient beastlord gain the following class feature:

Expert Hunter: A ancient beastlord gain Weapon Focus with any weapon of the tribal weapon group as well as the Big Game Hunter as bonus feats.

This ability replaces the ranger's proficiency with medium armor.

Prehistoric Empathy (Ex): An ancient beastlord’s wild empathy only applies to dinosaurs or ancient mammals.

This ability alters wild empathy.

Limited Favored Enemy: An ancient beastlord must select animal as her first favored enemy. A blood hunter instead receives an additional +1 bonus on her favored target bonus against animals, but lowers it by 1 against all humanoids.

This ability alters favored enemy or favored target.

Primeval Bond (Ex): At 4th level an ancient beastlord must choose between a powerful animal companion or gaining the power of a beast for herself.

Primal Beasthunter (Ex): The ancient beastlord gain half of highest favored enemy bonus as a bonus on her natural armor and gain Aspect of the Beast as a bonus feat even if she does not meet the prerequisites. Additionally the ancient beastlord adds half her highest favored enemy bonus to all attack rolls and damage rolls for attacks made with weapons from the tribal weapon groups. This does not stack with his normal favored enemy bonus when targeting a creature that qualifies as a favored enemy. If she has the favored target class feature, she instead improved her favored target bonus to attack and damage by +1 when made with a weapon from the tribal group.

At 10th level she is permanently under the effect of alpha instinct and her natural armor bonus improves by +1. At 14th and 18th her natural armor bonus improves further by +1.

Primeval Companion (Ex): An ancient beastlord select an animal companion as per her hunter’s bond, and she may only select a dinosaur or ancient mammal as her animal companion. However she may also gain a bond with her hunting companions, applying only to her primeval companion. She also gains Beastmaster Style or Mounted Combat as a bonus feat, even if she does not meet the prerequisites, and may ignore the Charisma requirement for feats which has Beastmaster Style as prerequisites.

At level 10th her primeval companion further transforms into an incredible specimen of its kind. She may cast atavism once per day as a supernatural ability, but she may only target her primeval companion. At 14th and 18th level she may use this ability an additional time per day.

This ability alters hunter’s bond and replaces spellcasting. A blood hunter or skimrisher ranger may select the ancient beastlord archetype even though they lack spellcasting.
