Mechanic

A mechanic is a somewhat simple job, relying more on knack and training they craft and repair things, usually for a fee. They usually rely on workshop, garage and fully stashed workplace to make the best out of their skill. They differ from Builder as they focus on smaller tasks such as maintenance and are completely non-magical.

Making a Mechanic

Abilities: Mechanics usually rely on several ability score, Intelligence increase their skills and relevant skill checks, Strength allow them to carry heavy things and Charisma allow them to negotiate good prices.

Races: Dwarves, Gnomes and Humans make most of the mechanics. However any races can pretty much become a mechanic with little problem.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Mechanic.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Mechanic is proficient with all simple weapons as well as the Bonesaw, Blunderbuss, Combat Shovel, Combat Spade, Gnome Hooked Hammer, Great Mace, Light Hammer, Military Light Mace, Military Heavy Mace, Warhammer and all martial crossbows and firearms.

A mechanics is proficient with light armor and medium armor as well as all shields (except tower shields).

Bonus Feat: A 1st, 3rd, 6th and each 6 level thereafter the Mechanic gain a bonus feat from the following list: Device Knowledge, Efficient Crafting, Handyman, Skill Focus (Knowledge Engineering), Mundane Crafter, Skill Tool Optimization or Weaponize Tool.

She must meet the prerequisite of the feat as normal.

Use Mechanical Device (Ex): A Mechanic is a natural with machines, gaining "Use Mechanical Device", a unique skill that allows the roboticist to identify and operate machines whose function is unknown to her. It is similar to a Use Magic Device check, but is her class level + her Int modifier, and having 5 ranks in Knowledge: Engineering gives a +2 synergy bonus to her roll.

As a general rule, DC 10 is for simple, unknown devices such as a gun, a simple vehicle, or determining what exposed gears and wires connect to. DC 20 is for complex devices, such as trying to drive a car, operating a machine with three or more complex functions, determining where gears or wires go with only indirect or partial evidence, or understanding what a complex machine does (but not how it does it). DC 30 is for really complicated devices, alien technologies, machines with non-visible parts (such as many microscopic electronics), or extremely multifunctional items.

Checks to see if she knows what it is off the bat take no longer than a Knowledge check, but checks to figure out what something does generally take 1 minute of study. Checks can be rushed to 1 round by increasing the DC by +10.

A Mechanic may use this ability instead of Disable Device for all purpose and count as her class +3 as ranks in Disable Device for the purpose of prerequisites.

Trapfinding (Ex): A 2nd level Mechanic's ability to work with machine and mechanism work in her favor, she gain trapfinding as a Rogue of her level.

Quick Crafting (Ex): A 4th level Mechanic is very effective at crafting things, when crafting within a workshop, garage or factory fitted with all the tool she need she count the price of any items she craft in platinum rather than silver for the purpose of determining how long it take to craft.

Quick Fix (Ex): A 4th level mechanic can fix a Broken item much more quickly than normal, she only need to spend 1 minute or work per 1 hit point of the item. If she has a full workplace alongside tool she only need to spend 1 minutes per 5 hit points instead.

Daily Job (Ex): A 10th level Mechanic do not need to spend more than 8 hours for crafting or repairing any non-building mundane items. She can essentially finish almost any project in 8 hours. This ability only work when the mechanic is in a workshop or otherwise fully outfitted with a workplace and tools.
