Broken Sword HiltEdit

Your well made sword is broken, but you can still stab someone with the broken remains.

The broken sword hilt template is not a normal item template, for it is not added intentionally and does not take up or override space for other templates on the item. Rather it is a sort of status effect, a condition when a well made sword of at least masterwork quality is destroyed. There is a small chance that the blade will become a broken sword hilt weapon and still, technically, be functional.

RequirementsEdit

The original sword of at least masterwork quality must be destroyed. It is a 5% chance such a sword will gain this template, with another 5% for every point of enhancement bonus it has (max 30% at +5).

Broken Sword Hilt WeaponsEdit

The broken sword hilt template can be added to any broken bladed weapon. In this state it reduces damage size by two steps, becomes one step lighter to handle (minimum Light weapon), and takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls. Its critical multiplier drops one step (effectively being unable to critical at x1). Any damage from magical enhancements and properties is cut in half (minimum 1), or only works half the time if a non-damaging effect. However, the weapon is still technically magical if it was before and still a weapon of its type. For the purposes of sundering, it has half the hardness and hp as the original but otherwise starts out at "full hp" for its remaining half.

This stub of a weapon contains enough magic that if the weapon is repaired to its original form, it does not lose its previous enhancements, if any.

Cost: 0 gp
