Zaroth

A very odd brass-like metal, zaroth is very soft and flexible, but harden if force is applied to it. The increase in hardness is proportional to strength of the applied force. As a result zaroth has a lot of application in engineering, but is sometimes made in more primitive tools such as weapons and armor.

When struck or used to strike, a zaroth weapon gains increased hardness. If a physical attack is made against a zaroth weapon, its hardness increases by the attacker's strength modifier for 1 round. If a successful attack is made with the zaroth weapon, its hardness increases by your own strength modifier. Multiple consecutive strikes don't stack, but overlap with the highest taking priority.

An armor made of zaroth suddenly hardens upon impact, granting DR/Piercing based on the weight class of the armor. A light armor grants DR 1, a medium armor grants DR 2 and a heavy armor grants DR 3.

If a whip is made of zaroth, it deals damage as if one size category larger and may be used to deal lethal damage. It otherwise shares the normal quality of a weapon made of the material.

Zaroth has 15 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 8.
