Amulet of the Everlasting[edit]

The Wheel of Life and Death is dead, and in its place a soul gem remains embedded in a simple wrought iron chain. This amulet grants the user the power of immortality and the undying, at a small price...

When The Wheel of Life and Death is slain it leaves behind this artifact. It acts as a maita soul stone with unlimited capacity in both HD and how many souls it can store. When worn it locks to the user and cannot be removed but otherwise does not appear to be cursed. In fact it suppresses age related penalties on the user and grants the user the ability to use soulbinding sword as a spell-like ability at will, and any souls taken are instead transfered to the amulet. Whenever the amulet absorbs a soul of a creature with Int 3 or more it adds the remaining lifespan of the creature to your own lifespan (or +100 years if slaying an ageless creature). Thus with enough souls taken you could have a nigh infinite lifespan and never die. At your option you may also revert your appearance to that of a young adult. This function is revealed upon the first soul absorbed by the wearer.

It also reveals that if you ever die, you can consume 100 years of your extended lifespan to revive yourself if you happen to die. This is a non-action which occurs when you die, and your body and the amulet vanish in a puff of ethereal smoke. You will respawn 1d10 days later in the location of your choice on the same plane you died on within the limits of greater teleport.

What the amulet does not reveal is that souls are stored in a hellish afterlife demiplane where they are tormented endlessly, nor that when the amulet has absorbed 100 souls of any quality that The Wheel of Life and Death will be reborn... and immediately consume the wearer of the amulet, dragging them into the ethereal plane to do so. The wearer can delay being devoured by being on a plane without an ethereal plane, but they will be consumed the moment they step foot outside of their safe zone. The user can make a DC 30 Fortitude save. On a success they simply die but their soul is not consumed, as per The Wheel of Life and Death's ability.

Break enchantment and stronger magic is required to remove the amulet, and any rigors of age immediately hits you once removed.

It is not entirely certain how to destroy the amulet of the everlasting and most creatures may not want to in order to take advantage of its properties. They may also wish to ensure that The Wheel's Unforgotten ability never comes into play, as the amulet will vanish if the monster is revived. Some suspect the amulet may be able to be destroyed if it is worn by a child of 8 or younger who then lives their whole life without turning evil or absorbing a soul, and who perishes of old age. If performed correctly, then the amulet should crumble into dust and perhaps it would even cause the Unforgotten ability to be neutralized.
