Xadian Magician[edit]

This is an example class using the Xadian Magic variant rule; This is the Xadian version of the Wizard.

Making a Xadian Magician[edit]

Abilities: Intelligence governs your spells, while Dexterity helps you dodge spells and attacks, and Consitution helps you resist wounds, poisons and other physical hardships.

Races: Any, though magical races are the most common.

Alignment: Any.

Starting Gold: 5d4×10 gp (125 gp).

Starting Age: Complex.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Xadian Magician.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Xadian Magicians are proficient with the quarterstaff, sap, club, dagger, sickle, heavy crossbow and light crossbow, but not with any armor or shields, as these interfere with their somatic components.

Spells: Xadian Magicians cast arcane spells, using the Xadian Magic variant rule. The spell save DC is 10 + the Magician's Intelligence modifier + the spell's level. In place of bonus spells per day, the Xadian Magician gets to learn and prepare an additional spell for every bonus spell per day his Intelligence would normally give him.

Xadian Magicians may learn their spells from any class spell list; If a spell appears on more than one class spell list at different spell levels, you may learn it as if it were the lowest level it has on any spellcasting class's list if that class can cast 9th-level spells. So for example, Cure Light Wounds would be a first-level spell, Hold Person a 2nd-level spell, Tongues and Animate Dead would be 3rd-level spells, and Shadow Walk would be a 6th-level spell, even though those spells appear at other spell levels.

The Xadian Magician may learn and prepare a spell if their class level is equal to twice the spell's level -1. So they would need to be level 3 to cast 2nd-level spells, level 5 for 3rd-level spells, and so forth. Once they learn a spell, it is engrained in their memory; But they may choose to forget a single known spell and learn another in its place each time they gain a level after 1st.

All Xadian Magicians know and can cast Detect Magic, Read Magic Mage Hand and Prestidigitation; These spells do not count against their spells known or spells prepared, can't be swapped out for other spells later, and can be cast using energy from any Source.

You know all of your spells without having to refer to a spellbook, but you can only bring so many of them to the front of your mind at once. Changing which spells you have prepared takes 15 minutes of uninterrupted concentration, but can otherwise be done at will.

Bonus Feats (Ex): At 1st level and every level divisible by 4 therafter, the Xadian Magician gains a bonus feat of their choice that they must meet the prerequisites for. These feats must be Metamagic, Item Creation or Spelltouched feats.


Source Specialization[edit]

The Xadian Magician may specialize in spells of a single source, in exchange for giving up access to magic from two other sources of their choice.

Choose one Source: Sun, Moon, Star, Sea, Earth, Sky or Dark. At 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th level, you gain an additional spell known and spell prepared, but these spells must always be of this chosen Source. Additionally, you automatically gain the Source Focus feat for that Source, and you may add half your class level to all Spellcraft checks relating to spells of that Source.

However, in order to achieve this mastery over a single Source, you must give up two other Sources from the list. You may never learn nor cast spells of this Source as a Magician, though you may do so from other classes.
