Ancient Beastlord

Either the result of time travel, or living in some lost world or another planet. The ancient beastlord is a primeval type of ranger who is used to facing long-vanished animals of an ancient era. As a result they are tougher and meaner, and are able to tame such beasts… but lack the connection to nature necessary for spells.

Class: Ranger

Level: 1st, 4th, 5th-20th

Replaces: Hunter’s Bond, Spellcasting

Benefit: A ancient beastlord gain the following class feature:

Weapon Proficiency: An ancient beastlord is proficient with all simple weapons, the bolas, boomerang, greatclub, greatspear, net, throwing axe as well as light and heavy shield. She treats the bolas, boomerang and net as being part of the tribal weapon group.

This ability alters the ranger's weapon proficiency.

Behemoth Hunter: A ancient beastlord is used to fight gigantic creatures since she was young, gaining the Big Game Hunter feat as bonus feats. Additionally she gain her choice between Improved Unarmed Strike or Weapon Focus (any weapon of the tribal weapon group) as a bonus feat.

This ability replaces the ranger's proficiency with medium armor.

Prehistoric Empathy (Ex): An ancient beastlord’s wild empathy only applies to ancient mammals or dinosaurs.

This ability alters wild empathy.

Primeval Bond (Ex): At 4th level an ancient beastlord must choose between a powerful animal companion or becoming a peerless hunter.

Alpha Hunter (Ex): The ancient beastlord become a hunter without peers, firstly she gain a bonus to her natural armor equal to half her highest favored enemy bonus and the Harvest Parts feat as a bonus feat. Her prowess also grants her a unchained monk's flurry of blow class feature, as a monk of her ranger level, except that it can be used with any weapons from the tribal weapon group. Finally she makes a bond with her favorite hunting weapon, gaining the ability to enhance it as if she had the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat.

At 10th level she is permanently under the effect of alpha instinct.

Primeval Companion (Ex): An ancient beastlord select an animal companion as per her hunter’s bond, and she may only select a dinosaur or ancient mammal as her animal companion. However she may also gain a bond with her hunting companions, applying only to her primeval companion. She also gains Beastmaster Style or Mounted Combat as a bonus feat, even if she does not meet the prerequisites, and may ignore the Charisma requirement for feats which has Beastmaster Style as prerequisites.

At 10th level, the ancient beastlord may transforms into an incredible specimen of its kind. She may cast atavism once per day as a supernatural ability, but she may only target her primeval companion. At 14th and 18th level she may use this ability an additional time per day.

This ability alters hunter’s bond and replaces spellcasting. A blood hunter or skirmisher ranger may select the ancient beastlord archetype even though they lack spellcasting.
