Hecatoncheires
Named for the great hundred handed giants, these monstrosities wear the name proudly and with good reason.
Personality
The Hundred Handed Giants are a people defined by their love of fighting, alcohol, and crafting. Hecatoncheires are often compared to dwarves due to having a culture which loves ale and crafting, but the Hecatoncheires are much different socially. Hecatoncheires often settle disputes with fighting, their favorite games are all variations of fighting such as wrestling or straight up arena fights, and even courtship can be described as a fight since couples fight to see which family pays the dowry. The best job a Hecatoncheir can have is as a clan warrior, since only the best of the best warriors can have the job. The weaker Hecatoncheires are the farmers, the housekeepers, and every other job, and often train rigorously when not working to attempt to reattempt their entry exam to become a clan warrior.
Physical Description
The Hecatoncheires are not named after the Hundred Handed Giants for nothing. These massive men and women stand at 12 feet tall and can have up to twelve arms, though most only have 4. Hecatoncheires appear much like humans otherwise, though they may have more pronounced noses and foreheads. Hecatoncheires are often extremely muscular, as they train constantly. Many Hecatoncheires that leave their clan voluntarily will tattoo or brand their clan's mark onto their shoulder to signify that despite them being far from the others they are still one with the clan.
Relations
Hecatoncheires are viewed in two different ways. Those who live in areas where Hecatoncheires typically settle, deep in jungles and mountains, often view the giants as a nuisance as their destructive fighting is constant and their large size means they eat more and devour an area's resources very quickly and move on. Those who live far from Hecatoncheires lands would not be accustomed to seeing such strange creatures, and the large beasts have little understanding of outsider culture so their constant need to battle may destroy an area's view of them rather quickly.
Alignment
Despite their hunger for battle and destructive nature they actually tend towards lawful. They hold the utmost respect for their clan warriors and leaders and often fall into place rather submissively in their clan once their place has been established through combat.
Lands
The Hecatoncheires are a nomadic people, often banding together in a clan of about 30 and travelling the mountains and forests while scrounging for food. Hecatoncheires rarely settle down in towns or cities of their own.
Religion
The Hecatoncheires revere their Mother Gaia, or the earth itself, as their patron deity, whom they believe birthed them long ago with the sky as their father. Most spiritual leaders tend to be Druids rather than Clerics since animals and nature magic match the worship of nature much better.
Language
Hecatoncheires speak giant, and their adventurers speak common. Many attempt to learn Terran so they may commune with their Mother.
Names
Hecatoncheir names often follow Goliath, Giant, or Dwarven naming conventions depending on which group the Hecatoncheires clan interacts with the most.
Racial Traits
- +4 Strength or +4 Constitution, -4 Dexterity: As large creatures they are powerful or hardy but often not the best at maneuvering a lockpick through that tiny hole WHEN THEIR FIST COULD GO THROUGH THE DOOR.
- Giant Type
- Large: As a Large creature, a hecatoncheires takes a -1 size penalty to Armor Class, a -1 size penalty on attack rolls, a +4 size bonus on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a -4 size penalty on Hide checks, but it uses larger weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are twice of those of a Medium character. They have a space and reach of 10 feet.
- Hecatoncheires base land speed is 40 feet.
- Secondary Arms: Hecatoncheires are born with a second set of arms that are capable of fine manipulation and holding objects but cannot be used to wield weapons. They may change this by either taking The Secondary Arms Feat or the Hecatoncheires Racial Paragon (I will make this soon)
- Racial Hit Dice: The Hecatoncheires have 2 Giant Racial Hit Dice and all the benefits from them. If I must I will copy all the bonuses to this page but I would really rather not.
