Hoplite
An hoplite is a heavily armored combatant wielding a spear and a shield in tandem. They are well-trained in phalanx formation, but are not left without recourse in close combat. An hoplite is expected to have a certain set of skills, making them ideal adventurers.
Class: Fighter
Level: 1st, 2nd, 6th
Replaces: 1st Bonus Feat, 2nd Bonus Feat, 6th Bonus Feat
Benefit: An hoplite gain the following class features:
Shield and Spear (Ex): Hoplites are known for wielding both a spear and heavy shield in tandem, they can wield a two-handed polearm or spear with one hand. At 6th level even when wielding their polearm or spear in one hand it counts as a two-handed weapon whenever doing so would be advantageous.
Hoplite Training (Ex): An hoplite gain the Weapon Focus feat with any spear or polearm weapon they are proficient with and with the Short Sword.
Phalanx Combat (Ex): At 2nd level, when an hoplite wields a reach weapon with which they are proficient, allies don’t provide soft cover to opponents they attack with reach. Once per encounter, as an immediate action, an hoplite can ready an action to set a spear or polearm against a charge.
