Arane Paragon[edit]

Even though the arane are shy about their arachnoid natures, they do not shun it. In fact, some embrace it and work on being as spidery as a spider can be.

Making an Arane Paragon[edit]

Abilities: While it partly depends on the classes used in conjunction with the paragon class, in general aranes benefit from high dexterity.

Races: Arane.

Alignment: Any.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Arane Paragon.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Arane Paragons are proficient in all simple weapons and light martial weapons. They are proficient in light armor, and shields (but not tower shields).

Spells Per Day: At 2nd and 3rd level, the character gains new spells per day as if they had also gained a level in a spellcasting class they belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained, except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming an arane paragon, they must decide to which class they adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Improved Webcraft (Ex): The arane paragon counts themselves as having twice as many HD as normal for the purposes of webcraft, and any craft checks made are done at x2 normal speed. In addition, the hardness and hp increase to hardness 5 and 10 hp/level.

Natural Weapon (Bite) (Ex): Arane Paragons gain a feral strike (bite) which deals 1d8 damage with a x3 modifier. They may enhance their bite attack as if it were a manufactured weapon. As normal, their poison applies to their bite attacks.

One of Us (Ex): Vermin do not inherently attack or treat the arane paragon as hostile until attacked, or otherwise commanded to.

Quick Climbing (Ex): The arane paragon's climb speed matches their land speed (if better), and they gain a +10 bonus on their land speed (and subsequently climb speed).

Websense (Ex): The arane paragon gains tremorsense out to 60 ft, but only through webbing and similar string-like substances.

Improved Poison (Ex): The 2nd level arane paragon's poison no longer has a cooldown time, and may be applied to a weapon as a swift action (or two weapons, if you possess Two-Weapon Fighting). If they have 10 HD, the poison works even if the creature is immune to poison, but the target gains a +8 bonus on the saving throw.

Improved Web Shot (Ex): The 2nd level arane paragon can deploy webbing without limit now, and their webs are more effective. A webbed creature is immobilized as well as entangled, unless they make a Reflex save (save DC is Constitution based), as long as you can anchor it to an immobile object in 10 ft, such as the ground. They can break the immobility (but remain within the net) with a Escape Artist check or a grapple check, DC equal to 12 + your Constitution modifier. This includes a +2 racial modifier.

They can use the web shot as a hookshot, using your own push/pull weight limit instead of the hookshot. As a standard action you can produce 50 ft more "rope" for descending down surfaces, though you can only project 50 ft of rope in the initial firing. Snapping off the webbing is a free action.

Ability Bonus: The 3rd level arane paragon gains a +2 additional bonus to their Dexterity score.

Greater Webcraft (Ex): The 3rd level arane paragon can now craft webcrafted objects at x10 speed, and can even craft complex solid objects with moving parts, and objects traditionally made of metal. They cannot craft technological objects which require microscopic parts, such as computers. Hardness and hp rise to hardness 8 and 10 hp/level.

Immune to Poison (Ex): The 3rd level arane paragon is immune to poison.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing an Arane Paragon[edit]

Religion: Most arane worship gods of art, craft, knowledge, and nature.

Other Classes: Arane paragons have the problem of being a giant spider, but once accepted they make excellent scouts no one suspects as being intelligent and crafty.

Combat: An arane paragon often fights as they have normally, progressing whatever class they did previously. On their own, however, they are find natural attackers who move in with webbing and then attack with bites and poison.

Advancement: Arane Paragons have many options for advancement. Many become rogues.

Daily Life: When you can build the landscape as you see fit with web, the whole world is your sandbox.

Organizations: Arane Paragons often rise to positions to power within their villages and nests hidden away from the world.

NPC Reactions: HOLY CRAP A GIANT SPIDER!!!

Arane Paragon Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge Arcana can research arane paragons to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.
