Rage LichEdit

The rage lich, also known as the everwrath, is a rare but dangerous being. Only those who possess a rage so great that it would consume their own bodies and cannot be sated can become them. The rage lich is consumed by wrath to a point that not even death itself can stop them crawling out of hell to destroy their foes. Pity those which become the target of a rage lich's anger.

Rage liches are made from a traumatic event so dire that the rage lich is confused by his own anger. Where as if he had died this would surely form a powerful ghost, they instead live and transform their desire to live to the completion of this one task so that they may be avenged.

Creating a Rage LichEdit

Rage lich is an acquired template which can be added to any corporeal creature with a Constitution score.

Size and TypeEdit

The creature becomes an Outsider with the Augmented subtype. Do not recalculate BAB, HD, or saves.

Hit DiceEdit

All current and future HD become d12s. If they already possess a d12 HD, they instead gain a +2 hp bonus for each d12 they possessed.

SpeedEdit

The rage lich gains fast movement as a barbarian. This stacks with a barbarian's fast movement.

AttackEdit

The rage lich gains the unarmed strike of a monk of their level. If they already have it they get a +4 bonus on their effective monk level for unarmed damage, if better.

Full AttackEdit

A rage lich gains flurry of blows of a monk of their level. If they already have it they get a +4 bonus on their effective monk level for flurry of blows.

Special AttacksEdit

Provoking Enemy (Ex): If facing against creatures which are the focus of one's wrath, the rage lich gains a +2 to attack and +2d6 damage against them.

Rage (Ex): A rage lich gains rage as a barbarian of their level, including greater rage, and mighty rage. Times per day stack with actual barbarian levels.

Wrathful Powers: A rage lich gains rage points from their rage meter ability, allowing them to pull of several stunts by expending these points on any of the wrathful powers below. The saving throws for any DCs are Strength or Constitution based.

Anger Attack (Ex): For every 1 point of rage points they use, the rage lich gains +2 to damage. They may use up to their character level in rage points on a single attack. This is used as part of an attack.

Surge of Adrenaline (Ex): For every 1 point of rage points they use, the rage lich gains +1 to a Strength or Constitution check. They may use up to their character level in rage points on a single Strength or Constitution check. This is used as part of the check.

Crazed Charger (Ex): By spending 1 rage point the rage lich gains +2 AC and an additional +2 attack when charging. This is a swift action.

Wild Pounce (Ex): By spending 3 rage points the rage lich can gain Pounce for 1 round. This is a swift action.

Flame of Fury (Sp): By spending 5 rage points the rage lich can project his inner fire as an attack, a licking line of flame which deals 1d6 points of fire damage per character level in a 60 ft line, Reflex save for half. This is a standard action.

Get Off Me (Ex): By spending 7 rage points the rage lich can break free of any bond or grapple without a check. The force of his escape deals 1d4 points of force damage per two character levels to the offending object or creature holding them, no save. This is a standard action.

Hulk Jump (Ex): By spending 9 rage points the rage lich can multiply the distance traveled by a Jump check by x100. They do not take fall damage from their own jump. They can also use this ability to negate any fall damage from any height. It is used as part of a Jump check, or an immediate action if falling.

Force Smash (Ex): By spending 11 rage points the rage lich can destroy any force effects or magical barriers with an attack roll. The attack deals no damage but immediately destroys the magical effect as if the appropriate counter was used on it (disintegrate for force effects or the appropriate spell for layers of a prismatic sphere, each layer done separately). This only applies to barriers, and not self buffs such as mage armor. This is made as part of an attack.

I Will Kill You (Ex): By spending 13 rage points the rage lich can after the effect of quickened true strike. The attack ignores all DR and hardness, and counts as the appropriate type of damage to bypass regeneration. This is a swift action.

Destruction Rains from the Heavens (Sp): By spending 15 rage points the rage lich can duplicate the effects of meteor swarm, generating spheres of pure furious essence. This is a standard action.

Unstoppable Wrath (Ex): By spending 17 rage points the rage lich can render himself immune to a single attack, negating it completely. After using this, he cannot use it for the rest of the encounter. This is an immediate action.

Special QualitiesEdit

Fast Healing (Ex): The rage lich gains fast healing equal to his Constitution score.

Focus of One's Wrath (Ex): Every rage lich must choose a certain creature, group, or event which is the source of their wrath, typically the very event which changed them into a rage lich in the first place. It can be revenge against a certain being, or rage over the loss of a loved one. The focus need not be plausible, though it must be possible to solve in some way such as the defeat of their enemy or the revival of their loved one. As long as the rage lich lives this becomes the focus of their life and the reason they quest, as well as being the source of their rage powers.

Because their entire life is focused on this one goal, significant distractions (typically anything taking more than 24 hours detour) simply make the rage lich angry and he will need to start making DC 15 + 1/2 HD Will saves or start using up uses of his rage ability until he has made a save (keeping himself calm for 8 hours) or runs out of rage.

If the focus of one's wrath is solved, the rage lich loses his provoking enemy, rage, wrathful powers, rage meter, and undying rage abilities from this template. They can re-acquire their source of rage by finding a new focus, or lose the template and immediately gain 4 class levels or racial HD. If they chose to lose the template they may not take this template again, their wrath is spent.

Immunities (Ex): Rage liches are immune to exhaustion, fatigue, fear effects, and mind-affecting effects. Their rage do not allow themselves to be stopped by their bodies or their minds.

Rage liches interact with calm emotions strangely. They are immune to its usual effects, but instead must make a save or become staggered for the duration. Combat does not break this effect.

Rage Meter (Ex): Every round a rage lich spends in a rage, they start building up intense energy. They gain 1 point of rage each round, plus an additional point for every 10 points of damage they take. These points can be spent on wrathful powers. If these points exceed your character level (including your LA), your body cannot contain your own wrath which typically manifests as a burning inner fire which forms lines of molten energy on your skin and releases heat. Extreme forms have one's rage transforms you into what appears to be a being of molten lava and rock.

Exceeding one's character level is dangerous. For every point you exceed your character level you deal 2 fire damage to all creatures which strike you in melee with non-reach weapons, natural attacks, or grapples, and deal the same damage to any unarmed strikes or natural weapons you use. However you also take 2 points of damage, bypassing any DR or regeneration. If you exceed twice your character level, you must begin making Fortitude saves (DC 10 + the number of rage points you currently have) or die as your body explodes with rage. You erupt into a fireball dealing 10 points of fire damage per HD in a 20 ft radius burst, with a Reflex save for half (same DC as the Fort save). Your body is reduced to ash, and you cannot use undying rage to return.

On a successful Fortitude save, you can choose to immediately flush all your rage points out of your system and drops you out of your rage.

Undying Rage (Ex): You're so mad, you won't die even if they kill you. When you die, your soul travels to the appropriate afterlife only for you to break out, fight your way through the planes, and return as a being composed of solid rage. In fact after their first death their original body technically is no more, they have become pure anger. The whole process of fighting one's way back takes 1d10 days, after which the rage lich respawns in a random part of the world they were on.

Much like a ghost, preventing the respawn of a rage lich is difficult. Not killing them (such as through petrification) works, as does solving the cause of their rage. You can also try to overload them with sheer damage which keeps them alive, and thus they become unable to burn away their rage fast enough before they lose control and explode. If they die while under the effects of calm emotions they have a 5% chance of not respawning as well.
