The effect might be more pronounced, even if I allowed them to retain their hit point, being turned into a small animal is a death sentence since you lose all class features. However unlike the original spell, which is a targeted effect, this is a ray and thus requires an attack roll. The later part is a big reason why it a variant. I do not understands the part about removing the will save, it still there and doing about the same thing. --Leziad (talk) 19:59, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
