Why is it called a 'Gauth'?[edit]

This is a useful monster -- more tractable than the MM beholders but still pretty tough -- but I don't understand why it's called a Gauth, since that name is already used for a "standard" 3.5e monster. Shouldn't this be called something else, like a Gauthling maybe? (Or, perhaps more reasonably, a Lesser Gauth?) (Or did this version predate the standard monster of the same name, perhaps?) On the contrary, this was intended as a replacement for the standard monster, hence the identical name. The plan was to just delete it or change the name if any fuss was made about the similarity from a legal standpoint, but it's never really happened. - TG Cid (talk) 21:21, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
