This vest is used to play recorded sounds. It's a heavy vest with several somewhat boxy compartments; Each of these compartments - Two on the front, at the shoulders, and one large one on the back - Plays the same sound when the vest is activated. 

To be activated, the vest must have at least one Sound Crystal slotted in it; It can hold up to 3 of these at a time. Changing a crystal in a move action. Each Crystal costs 125 GP, 5 XP, and 2 hours to create; They can record sounds of up to 5 minutes in length. When the vest is activated, it replays the sound at the same volume it was recorded at. A crystal must be held and activated - A standard action - To record sounds. This is often used by spies to record information.

A special kind of crystal can be created, allowing a Bard to record Bardic Music performances, and requires at least as many ranks in Perform to make as the song itself requires to play. When doing so, multiply the cost of creating the crystal by the number of ranks in Perform the Bardic Music function requires. Thus a Sound Crystal of Inspire Courage +1 would cost 375 GP, 15 XP and take 6 hours. To prevent Inspire Courage +4 from being made at the same cost as the +1 version, the number of ranks needed is 3 + the Bard level required to attain the bonus, thus Inspire Courage would require 11 ranks in Perform, thus taking 1375 GP, 55 XP and 22 hours to make.

Once the crystal is created, all the Bard must do is have the crystal slotted, and activate the vest, feeding the vest his energy (Expending a Bardic Music use, as is appropriate) as part of the standard action used to activate it. This doesn't allow the Bard to use more uses of Bardic Music than he otherwise normally can; However, it does allow the Bard to act normally while the music is playing, as he's not having to sing the song himself. He can cast spells normally, fight normally and his Bardic Music doesn't suffer a failure chance if he's deafened. However, Sound Crystals of Bardic Music cannot be made to play any ability which targets enemy creatures and/or allows a saving throw. Thus an ordinary Bard can create Sound Crystals of any of his Bardic Music effects except Fascinate, Suggestion and Mass Suggestion.

The Vest has the same hardness and HP as a Chain Shirt (Hardness 10, 20 HP), and can be made from special materials; The cost is calculated as if it were a suit of Light armor.
