Heighten Maneuver [Metamaneuver] Prerequisites: Ability to initiate at least 2nd-level maneuvers.Benefit: You can Heighten a maneuver; Doing so increases its effective level, and thus its save DC, up to the same level as the highest-level Maneuver you can currently initiate. This means that any penalty to your initiator level that temporarily lowers the highest-level maneuver you can initiate will also lower the maximum level you can Heighten a maneuver to; If you can currently only initiate up to 4th-level maneuvers, you can only Heighten your maneuvers up to 4th level, even if you could normally initiate maneuvers of 5th level or higher. This is affected by initiator level decreases.

Once you initiate a Heightened Maneuver, you suffer a penalty to your initiator level equal to the maneuver's level increase for 1 round; This means that if you Heighten a 3rd-level Maneuver to 7th level, you'll suffer a -4 penalty to initiator level for 1 round. While this penalty is in effect, your higher-level maneuvers will become unavailable, but aren't expended or lost and will be available once the penalty ends.
