Type[edit]

Why is this both martial and exotic? --Ghostwheel (talk) 10:44, 26 April 2019 (MDT)

Good point. I will have to think about this. I may change the exotic weapon from a type to a property. --Rlyehable (talk) 06:54, 3 May 2019 (MDT)
I actually changed exotic weapon from a weapon type to a weapon property. I also changed the weapon type to Simple, since all of the ammunition is simple. --Rlyehable (talk) 09:39, 3 May 2019 (MDT)
Why is this an exotic weapon? From a realistic perspective, it's one of the most simple tools for increasing the strength of spears and javelins, and just about anyone can make use of one to improve the power of their throw.
From a mechanical perspective, this pushes such weapons into the realm of martial, rather than simple.
Because of these reasons (mostly the latter one), I would recommend removing the exotic property, and adding the martial one instead. --Ghostwheel (talk) 09:56, 3 May 2019 (MDT)
There were several reasons that I had this as an exotic:
1) It is not a common device in the standard D&D settings (Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, etc.). So, I did not think that it would be covered in the normal weapon training of simple or martial weapons.
2) I wanted it to be a racial weapon for Longshanks (5e Subrace) (halfling) and Rakasta (5e Race)s
3) I needed a reason that it was not used by all creatures that use darts, javelins, and spears.
4) I wanted it be unusual when player characters first encounter it. And not just have them immediately pick it up and use it with proficiency.
If we were to remove the exotic property, I feel that we would need to provide a reason that it is not used my most creatures that can use the ammo that works with the atlatl, such as a 30 ft. minimum range.
