EL 3 encounter is 6 of these. They all open their masks, and the fighter says goodbye to his Int/Wis/Cha. Encounters of the same EL as the party are supposed to take 20-25% of the party's daily resources. Not only does this not work out to that, but it potentially removes characters from the game for days on end. Ability damage is BAD in general, and far worse before you can get a wand of lesser restoration to make it go away after a battle--and this necessitates the need for such an item (also a BAD thing).


1)You're telling my that my stock NPC is shitty because it's overpowered in a specific encounter against a specific class? 2)This is intended for VH balance games. 3)Low levels are borked anyways. It takes a bunch of these guys using their open masks abilities to stand a chance of wiping out the fighter- whereas a wizard with web and sleep spells prepared can take out a fighter much more reliably.   1. I'm saying your stock NPC is shitty because it's overpowered in all encounters where there are multiples of them and people are going to fail their saves.
  2. That's... nice, but even Tome classes are going to get shit on.
  3. That's a poor excuse for making content that doesn't work.
Part 2.
  1. In VH games? Not really, but does it come online at CR 1/2? Nope.
  2. PC death is bad. It's fine at higher levels in VH games for the most part because death becomes a speedbump as soon as resurrection/the wish economy comes online. But taking characters out of the game and replacing them is bad for the story and consistency, stops people from getting attached and invested in their characters, and gives PCs a sense of powerlessness if they're constantly dying or unable to do anything.
  3. This NPC brings ability damage. If you think ability damage is a problem, then don't create something that uses it. --Ghostwheel (talk) 21:18, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
I don't see how fighting 6 of these at level 3 is harder than fighting 3 level 1 Wizards at level 3. Ability damage is just more downtime than the usual stuff. --Foxwarrior (talk) 05:08, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
