Eldritch Shield
Blast Shape - Warlock Least, Occultist Savant Least; 1st

When you use this blast shape on an Eldritch Blast, the Blast can be cast as a Swift action, and it forms a shifting Shield of energy around your body. This Shield has 2 HP per dice of damage your Eldritch Blast would normally deal, and does not grant immunity to critical hits, but does grant a +1 Deflection bonus to AC, +1 per 3 EB dice you possess (Max +5). All bonuses granted by this Blast Shape last until the beginning of your next turn, or until the Shield is broken.

The invocation has additional abilities based on what Eldritch Essence you use with it, as follows. Each effect grants defenses against the essence's normal offensive capability, subtracting from the Shield's health when the Warlock is subjected to such an effect. While the

No Essence: Spell Resistance equal to 10 + 1 per dice of Eldritch Blast you possess. Spells absorbed by this SR deal 1 point of damage to the shield, +1 per spell level (Max 10 damage for a 9th-level spell).

Frightful Blast: Immunity to Fear while the Shield persists. Fear effects absorbed deal damage to the Shield equal to the effect's save DC, minus the number of Eldritch Blast dice you possess; This cannot cause an effect to deal less than 1 damage to the Shield.

Sickening Blast: Immunity to Sickening and Nausea while the Shield persists. Such effects absorbed deal damage to the Shield equal to the effect's save DC, minus the number of Eldritch Blast dice you possess; This cannot cause an effect to deal less than 1 damage to the Shield.

Beshadowed Blast: Immunity to Blindness, Deafness, Dazzling, and Gaze Attacks while the Shield persists. Such sensory effects absorbed deal damage to the Shield equal to the effect's save DC, minus the number of Eldritch Blast dice you possess; This cannot cause an effect to deal less than 1 damage to the Shield.

Brimstone Blast: The Shield gains Resistance to Fire equal to 5 + 5 per dice of Eldritch Blast you possess.

Hellrime Blast: The Shield gains Resistance to Cold equal to 5 + 5 per dice of Eldritch Blast you possess.

Bewitching Blast: Immunity to Mind-Affecting effects while the Shield persists. Mind-Affecting effects absorbed deal damage to the Shield equal to the effect's save DC, minus the number of Eldritch Blast dice you possess; This cannot cause an effect to deal less than 1 damage to the Shield.

Noxious Blast: Immunity to Poison, Disease, and Ability Damage and Drain while the Shield persists. Such effects absorbed deal damage to the Shield equal to the effect's save DC, minus the number of Eldritch Blast dice you possess; This cannot cause an effect to deal less than 1 damage to the Shield.

Repelling Blast: Immunity to Knockback, Trip, and other forms of nonconsensual movement resulting from something other than teleportation, while the Shield persists. Such effects absorbed deal damage to the Shield equal to the effect's save DC, minus the number of Eldritch Blast dice you possess; This cannot cause an effect to deal less than 1 damage to the Shield.

Vitrolic Blast: The Shield gains Resistance to Acid equal to 5 + 5 per dice of Eldritch Blast you possess.

Utterdark Blast: Immunity to Negative Levels while the Shield persists. Energy Drain effects absorbed deal damage to the Shield equal to the effect's save DC, minus the number of Eldritch Blast dice you possess; This cannot cause an effect to deal less than 1 damage to the Shield.

Blastbind: Immunity to the spell attached to the Blastbind for as long as the Blastbind lasts. When the spell is absorbed, it deals 1 point of damage to the Shield, plus 1 for every 2 levels the spell is above 1st (Min damage 1, Max 5).

Dark Spiral Aura: Immunity to attempts to steal your health; These are effects that deal damage to a target and heal the caster or grant the caster temporary hit points, such as Vampiric Touch. Such effects backfire, affecting the caster as if you had cast it on them instead. Life-stealing effects so reflected deal damage to the Shield equal to the effect's save DC, minus the number of Eldritch Blast dice you possess; This cannot cause an effect to deal less than 1 damage to the Shield.

Adaptation

Effects can be created for any other Eldritch Essence invocation; The shield protects against what the blast would normally inflict.

NOTE: When combined with the Eldritch Blast Specialist, this invocation becomes ridiculously powerful; Allowing them to negate many annoying effects and granting resistance to various forms of damage in addition to the EBS's already-high damage output. Use that combo at your own risk. If your player breaks your game with this, advice from one DM to another: Instead of pulling your hair out in frustration, pull out theirs. It's more fun.*

  • DISCLAIMER That's a joke, peeps. Do it only at your own risk.
