College of Tactics[edit]

Not all bards inspire through the power of song. Those who follow the teachings of the college of tactics learn to inspire and support through hard work, smart plans, and creative solutions in the heat of battle.

Battle Intelligence[edit]

When you join the College of Tactics, you can choose to change your bard's Charisma based spellcasting and bardic class features to Intelligence. You also gain proficiency in Intelligence saving throws. In addition, you need no instruments to inspire, as your oratory skills and professionalism while explaining your plans is inspiration enough.

Tactical Spells[edit]

The following spells are added to the bard's class spell list, though you still must learn them as normal (or obtain them via Prepared for All Situations). Upon joining the College of Tactics you may swap out any of your current spells known for spells on this list.

0-create bonfire, guidance, mold earth, thaumaturgy
1-alarm, bless, sanctuary, snare
2-augury, fortune's favor, rope trick
3-beacon of hope, clairvoyance, wind wall
4-arcane eye, divination, mordenkainen's private sanctum
5-transmute rock, wall of stone
6-blade barrier, contingency, move earth
7-sequester
8-control weather, mighty fortress
9-gate

Prepared for All Situations[edit]

At 3rd level, you gain one additional bonus spell known. The bonus spell can be filled with any bard spell of which you have spell slots for by meditating for 10 minutes, and may be cast as normal afterwards. You may empty and change this bonus spell after a long rest.

At 7th, 11th, and 15th levels you gain one additional bonus spell known.

Reposition[edit]

At 6th level you gain the ability to assist your allies to get into the positions you need them to be. As a bonus action, you may have one ally (other than yourself) within 60 ft immediately move a distance up to their speed, or make an attempt to break free from being immobilized by ability or skill check or by saving throw. Your ally's movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.

At 10th level, you may apply it to all allies in range instead of just one. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Subtle Communique[edit]

At 14th level you may use the effect of message as a free action, effectively allowing quiet communication to anyone within 120 ft. You do not require any components for this version of the cantrip. If you already knew the message cantrip, you may swap it out for a different cantrip upon gaining this class feature.

Your Next Move Is...[edit]

At 14th level, you gain a preternatural sense of an opponent's tactical planning. As a bonus action you focus on one opponent within 120 ft, and they must succeed on a Intelligence save or have a snapshot of their current plan for the next round revealed to you. This can reveal on whom they are focusing their aggression, which spell or special attacks they might use and the nature of those attacks, or other short term information. It is only a snapshot, and future actions may change their plans.

While you have their plans revealed to you, you have advantage on saves against that target, and they have disadvantage on attack rolls against you until the end of the round. Alternatively you can grant this advantage to an ally whom can hear your warning (such as by using subtle communique) so long as they followed through on their plan.

Outside of combat, this has the effect of granting you advantage on Insight checks made to determine one's motivations.
