This bone crown is inlayed with onyx, and sharp barbs which dig into the head. It radiates a dark smoke when in use.
This spooky crown constantly radiates a desecrate effect centered on it, counting as an altar for the purposes of the spell. While wearing the crown it grants the user the following spells, which still require any expensive material components.
At will -death knell (DC 13); 3/day-speak with dead; 1/-day- inflict serious wounds (DC 14), animate dead.
The crown is technically cursed. Living users who drop to -1 or fewer hp are subject to their own death knell each round they remain in their dying state. If the target dies while wearing the crown, the crown locks into their skull and the wielder is reanimated next round as a skeleton or zombie (50% chance for either) next round under no control, but given with the initial command to slay its killer, followed by anyone else still living. While mindless, the undead can still employ the powers of the crown in pursuit of whatever task it sets out to do. There is a 5% chance the creature rises as an intelligent corpse creatureBoVD or bone creatureBoVD instead.
Removing the crown once it is locked is difficult, requiring a DC 20 Strength check or remove curse. Failing to successfully remove the crown deals the one attempting 3d8 negative energy damage.
Prerequisites: Craft Wonderous Item, animate dead, death knell, desecrate, inflict serious wounds, speak with dead.
Cost to Create: 3000 gp, 240 EXP, 6 days.
