Something about this mask reminds you that we are all alone in death.
This technically cursed mask of a skull can be attached securely with a loud and painful sounding crack to the face of the holder with a standard action. While attached, the mask fully conceals the wearer's visage and alters their speech and speaking patterns, granting a +10 bonus to bluff and disguise checks to pretend to be not be themselves. The mask is easily removed by the wearer (although with a similar loud, painful sounding cracking), but cannot be removed by anyone other than the wearer while the wearer is alive, and once the wearer is dead, removing the mask also removes the wearer's face - preserving their anonymity and preventing their body from being revived using raise dead and similarly powerful effects, although should any Forlorn Skull Mask be placed on the skull of someone lacking a face this way, this restriction is lifted.
While worn, the mask cannot be sundered, counting as a part of the wearers body. The mask cannot be removed while dispelled or in an antimagic field or similar effect, but does not grant the bonus to skill checks. The mask always depicts the same unique skull for each wearer. Despite completely replacing the face or the wearer, the mask does not prevent the wearer from doing things such as eating, being gagged, or making bite attack , assuming they would otherwise be able to take such actions.
This item is often sold at higher prices than typical due to its contraband nature.
