This horrifying spell returns its target to an earthly form, literally turning them into a gemstone.
You turn the designated target into a gemstone, based on its type according to the table below. Regardless of what kind of gem is created, it has a monetary value equal to 5,000 gold pieces per Challenge Rating of the transformed creature. Objects targeted by this spell are instead transformed into an equal quantity of rock salt; unattended objects do not received a saving throw.
A living creature affected by this spell is not dead (merely transformed), and thus any means to raise or resurrect them are pointless. This transformation is permanent unless reversed, which can only be achieved by a wish or miracle spell that has a caster level higher than or equal to that of this spell. A freedom spell will also set the victim of this spell free regardless of difference in caster level.
