You cast this spell just before casting a spell with a casting time longer than a standard action. Ghostly Chant reduces the time you must focus upon the spell down to a standard action, and picks up on the spellcasting afterward. A glowing, ever-changing magic rune appears orbiting your body and the ghostly murmurs of magical words are heard, substituting any somatic or vocal components your spell may require. If the spell requires material components or a focus, said items are consumed or used upon the completion of casting the spell. Spells augmented by Ghostly Chant still take up their normal casting times... a summon spell is still 1 round, lesser restoration still takes 3 rounds to cast, and raise dead still takes 1 minute to cast. You simply are free to act without concentrating on the casting of your spell.
At any point you may reassume control over your spell, allowing you to continue the casting if Ghostly Chant's duration is shorter than the casting time of your spell. Doing so ends that particular casting of Ghostly Chant and a new casting of the spell is required. Damage taken while Ghostly Chant is casting a spell for you will not disrupt the spell, but Ghostly Chant may be dispelled and the spell it was casting lost. An antimagic field suppresses Ghostly Chant and it spell it is casting, but it resumes once it leaves the area.
