Instinct Adept

An instinct adept is a warrior capable of reaching deep in their subconscious and attaining a heightened state. An instinct adept is less skilled in alchemy than most investigators, but their training makes them able to instantly react to incoming dangers.

Class: Investigator

Level: 1st-20th

Replaces: Poison Lore, Poison Resistance, Trap Sense, Poison Immunity

Benefit: An instinct adept gain the following class features:

Limited Extracts: The investigator prepares one fewer extract per day of each level of extract she knows. If this would reduce his extracts prepared to 0, she may only prepare bonus extracts that she received of that level due to a high Intelligence score.

Martial Expertise: An instinct adept is proficient with a single martial weapon of her choice and Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat. An instinct adept unarmed strike deals 1d6 points of damage.

Instinctive Premonitions (Su): A 2nd level instinct adept adds half her level as an insight bonus to her initiative and on saving throws against traps.

This ability replaces poison resistance +2, poison resistance +6 and poison immunity.

Uncanny Dodge (Ex): At 2nd level, an instinct adept gains the ability to react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She cannot be caught flat-footed, nor does she lose her Dex bonus to AC if the attacker is invisible. She still loses her Dexterity bonus to armor class if immobilized. A barbarian with this ability can still lose her Dexterity bonus to armor class if an opponent successfully uses the feint action against her.

If an instinct adept already has uncanny dodge from a different class, she automatically gains improved uncanny dodge (see below) instead.

This ability replaces poison lore.

Nimble (Ex): A 3rd level instinct adept gains a +1 dodge bonus to her AC while wearing light or no armor and carrying a light load. At 6th level and every 3 levels thereafter, this bonus increases by 1 (to a maximum of +6 at 18th level).

This ability replaces the trap sense class feature.

Heightened State (Su): A 4th level instinct adept is capable of entering a state of supernaturally heightened instinct as a swift action, spending 1 point of inspiration. While in heightened state she adds her studied combat bonus to her armor class and Reflex save and add her studied combat bonus against all opponents. Additionally while in this state of heightened instinct, if the actual target of her studied combat makes a melee attack and misses her, she may take an attack of opportunity against it. She may only use this ability once per round. If she delivers her studied strike while in heightened instinct state, the attack automatically catches the target flat-footed and she deals 2 additional damage per die of studied strike.

The state of heightened instinct lasts until the end of her next turn, but she may extend it by 1 round as a free action by spending 1 point of inspiration. An instinct adept may enter this state as an immediate action by spending 2 points of inspiration, if she does in response to an attack, them that attack must be rolled twice taking the lowest of both rolls.

This ability alters studied combat and studied strike.

Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex): At 5th level and higher, an instinct adept can no longer be flanked. This defense denies a rogue the ability to sneak attack the barbarian by flanking her, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels than the target has barbarian levels.

If a character already has uncanny dodge (see above) from another class, the levels from the classes that grant uncanny dodge stack to determine the minimum rogue level required to flank the character.

This ability replaces poison resistance +4.
