Living Dead Subtype[edit]

As living constructs are to constructs, the living dead are to the undead. They are undead who possess more living traits than normal at the loss of some of their abilities. Only undead can have the living dead subtype, which alters their racial traits as noted below.

Features[edit]
  • A living dead derives its Hit Dice, base attack bonus progression, saving throws, and skill points from the class it selects.
Traits[edit]

A living dead creature possesses the traits of the Undead type with the following exceptions (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).

  • Living Dead retain their Constitution score, which is added to their hit dice and concentration checks as normal. They are also able to gain regeneration as a result.
  • Living Dead are not immune to ability damage, ability drain, mind-affecting effects, critical hits, and non-lethal damage.
  • Living Dead do not inherently possess darkvision.
  • Living Dead have vitals and, if not blood, a blood substitute. They are affected by things such as bleeding damage and vorpal as a normal living creature.
  • A living dead cannot heal damage naturally.
  • Living Dead retain undead immunities to death effects, disease, energy drain, exhaustion, fatigue, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.
  • A living dead responds slightly differently from other living creatures when reduced to 0 hit points. A living dead with 0 hit points is disabled, just like a living creature. He can only take a single move action or standard action in each round, but strenuous activity does not risk further injury. When his hit points are less than 0 and greater than –10, a living dead is inert. He is unconscious and helpless, and he cannot perform any actions. However, an inert living dead does not lose additional hit points unless more damage is dealt to him, as with a living creature that is stable.
  • As a half-alive creature, a living dead can be raised or resurrected. They can choose to be restored in their living dead state, or their original living state (if they had one).
  • A living dead does not need to eat, sleep, or breathe, but he can still benefit from the effects of consumable spells and magic items such as heroes’ feast and potions.

Living Dead Subtype Creatures[edit]
