Lune-Cryst Mantle[edit]

Said to be the crystalized essence of a spirit of ice, the lune-cryst mantle is a thin band of crystal and leather which is always cold to the touch, regardless of environmental conditions. It fits over the shoulders, but there is no cape attached to the band, rather when worn several shield-sized shards of ice materialize behind its user, floating in the air. The ice crystals shuffle around, taking various complex shapes seemingly at random. When its user is in danger, the shards of ice snap into position to form a barricade against attacks, granting a +4 shield bonus. In cold conditions, the shield bonus increases by 2; in very hot conditions it decreases by 2. You may also launch shards of your ice shield at the enemy, as a ranged touch attack to anyone in 60 ft. For each point of shield bonus lost, you fire a shard which deals 4d6 cold damage as a standard action. When you hit 4 HD, you may fire up to two shards at once. At 8 HD you may fire three shards at once. At 12 HD you may fire four shards at once. At 16 HD you may fire five shards at once. At 20 HD you may fire six shards at once. The shield bonus granted by this item remains missing until it regrows in 24 hours. The Lune-Cryst Mantle takes up space in the shoulder slot.
