1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.
A malchus is similar to a longsword in length and weight, though with a sharp single-edged blade that makes this weapon a chopping and slicing oriented cutter.
The malchus characterized by a thick and wide single-edged blade, straight or slightly curved, usually getting wider and wider towards the tip, balanced quite further on from the grip towards the tip and capable of delivering crude slashing blows. Some models can be considered the martial version of the poor man’s simple “langes messer”, since it can feature a similar grip and guard shape. However, many models of malchus presents a more elaborate crossguard with a spherical pommel, similar to a longsword’s crossguard (In that case, it usually corresponds to the typical “one handed cleaving falchion” of the Middle Ages).
The malchus is often used by knights and professional men-at-arms, particularly against their lowers on the battlefield.
