Manipulator Bard

Sometime an individual with minimal magical abilities will attempt to learn the trade of bards. These bards learn to be wily and cunning, rather than relying on spells.

Class: Bard

Level: 1st-20th

Replaces: Spellcasting, Bardic Knowledge, Fascinate, Versatile Performance, Suggestion, Mass Suggestion, Lore Master.

Benefit: A manipulator bard gain the following class features:

Skill Ranks per Level: The manipulator gains a number of skill ranks equal to 8 + her Intelligence modifier at each level, instead of 6 + her Intelligence modifier skill ranks.

This alters the bard’s skill ranks per level.

Manipulator’s Performance (Su) and (Sp): A manipulator bard’s fascinating bard performance continues for 1 minute for each round of bardic performance used. If she focuses on a single creature when using facsinate, she may cause it to become fascinate even while in the presence of an obvious threat. If the creature is damaged, then it shakes free of the effect as normal. Additionally the DC of her fascinate, suggestion and mass suggestion performance increases by 1.

A manipulator bard gains its suggestion bardic performance at 4th level instead of 6th.

A manipulator bard gains its mass suggestion bardic performance at 12th level instead of 18th.

This ability alters fascination, suggestion and mass suggestion.

Mastermind (Ex): A manipulator bard adds half of her class level as a bonus on bluff, diplomacy, knowledge (local), knowledge (nobility) and Sense Motive.

This ability replaces bardic knowledge.

Sneak Attack (Ex): A 1st level manipulator bard gain sneak attack +1d6 as a rogue. At 3rd level and each three levels thereafter, the manipulator bard gains another dice of sneak attack.

This ability replaces spellcasting

Beguiling Defense (Ex): At 2nd level, when unarmored, not using a shield, unencumbered, and conscious, the manipulator bard adds her Charisma bonus (if any) to her AC and CMD. If she is wearing armor or using a shield, she instead adds half her Charisma bonus to her AC (minimum 0). In addition, the manipulator bard gains a +1 bonus to her AC and CMD at 4th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every 4 bard levels thereafter (up to a maximum of +5 at 20th level).

Mastermind Talent (Ex): At 2nd level, 6th level and each four levels thereafter, the manipulator bard may select a social talent as a vigilante or a rogue talent as a rogue. For the purpose of vigilante social talents, a manipulator bard does not have a vigilante identity and is always considered to be in her social identity.

This ability replaces versatile performance.

Speechcraft (Ex): A 5th level manipulator bard is an adept of the way of words, she may take 10 on any Charisma-based skills she has ranks in. Additionally, once per day she may use her words against a creature within close range that can understand her. As a standard action, that creature must make a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 level + the manipulator bard's Charisma or Intelligence modifier) or be placed under one of the following effect:

  • The creature is confused for 1d4+1 rounds, as per lesser confusion.
  • The creature is dazed for 1 round.
  • The creature become under the effect of the rage spell for 1 round per level, except with no positive bonuses.
  • The creature is placed under the effect of charm person with a caster level equal to your character level. A non-humanoid creature is only charmed for 1 hour.

She can use this ability one additional time per day and affect an additional creature for every three levels she possesses beyond 5th. This is a mind-affecting language-dependent effect.

This ability replaces lore master.
