As you cast this spell you create a vortex which 'eat' incoming magical or energy attacks and convert them into a brief magical barrier. The vortex absorb incoming non-physical damage aimed at you, preventing up to 5 + twice your caster level in damage (max of 25). The damage absorbed can only be non-physical damage, such as energy damage, force damage or even magic damage. The reduction happen before any saving throws to reduce damage. Any damage in excess of the damage prevented is still dealt to the caster. If the damage is completely prevented the attack or effect is not considered a hit for effect which trigger on a it.
After absorbing the attack, the caster gain temporary hit points equal to the damage prevented, stacking with any other sources and lasting 1 round. These temporary hit points are always lost first, even before other source of temporary hit points. The caster may even absorb multiple incoming attacks, gaining a large amount of brief temporary hit points.
If you are the within an area of effect and the damage is completely prevented you create a safe zone around yourself equal to your space and natural reach, other creatures in the area are protected from the effect as well, although their presence do not affect the amount of temporary hit points you get.
Null Barrier II[edit]

This functions as null barrier I, except that the amount of maximum damage prevented is 10 + twice caster level (Maximum of 40) and you gain a 20% miss chance against ranged physical attacks for the duration. This spell can be undercast.
Null Barrier III[edit]
School abjuration; Level psychic 6
This functions as null barrier I, except that the amount of maximum damage prevented is 20 + twice caster level (no maximum) and you gain 50% miss chance against ranged physical attacks for the duration. Instead of gaining temporary hit point you may elect to heal half the amount of damage prevented, gaining any above your maximum health as temporary hit points (following the same rule as the temporary hit points normally granted by this spell). This spell can be undercast.
Null Barrier IV[edit]
School abjuration; Level psychic 8
This functions as null barrier III, except you prevent all non-physical damage. This spell can be undercast.
