Some sacred warriors swear an oath to protect knowledge, especially that of magic - To unearth secrets to share with those who cannot otherwise defend themselves, to keep knowledge from being lost to history, and to tear down those that would misuse their power and warp information to their own ends. Those that swear this arcane oath are sometimes called spell knights or swordmages, and though they are rare, you'll know when you've crossed swords with one.

Tenets of Arcanum[edit]

Though the exact words and strictures of the Oath of Arcanum vary, paladins of this oath share these tenets.
Feed the mind. Teach others what you can, wherever you go, and forget not to teach yourself as well.
Exhume the truth. Stop at nothing to save information from being broken by crooked tongues and the weight of ages; Words today are actions tomorrow.
Express your story. To know thyself is to know your enemy; Save your own truth from being twisted, the same as you would any other.

Basic Arcanum[edit]

Beginning when you choose this Oath at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the Arcana skill if you do not already possess it. Furthermore, any time you make an Intelligence check that uses a skill, you gain a bonus on that check equal to your Charisma modifier.

Finally, you learn two Cantrips from the Wizard spell list; These are Paladin spells for you.

Arcanum Attunement[edit]

Each time you finish a Long Rest, choose one school of magic to attune yourself to - Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Illusion, Necromancy, or Transmutation. You gain additional Oath spells and other benefits based on your attuned school. You remain attuned to that school of magic until you choose to change it when you finish another Long Rest.

Oath of Arcanum Spells[edit]

You gain Oath spells at the Paladin levels listed. These are Paladin spells for you, and do not count against your number of Paladin spells prepared.

You also gain additional Oath spells, based on your current Arcanum Attunement.
