Obsidian

Armor Class: 13
Fragile

Weapon Material

Obsidian (volcanic glass) and other crystal weapons are extremely sharp, but easily damaged edged weapons. Such weapons are also exotic weapons.

Sharp[edit]

An edged weapon (slashing or piercing) made from obsidian gains +1 to attack and damage rolls.

Brittle[edit]

When the weapon hits an enemy wearing metal armor1, it becomes damaged and takes a damage point.

For each damage point, -1 penalty to subsequent damage rolls is applied. This penalty is cumulative with multiple hits. If a damaged weapon's penalty drops to -5, the weapon is destroyed.

A damaged weapon costs half the weapon's cost to repair; a destroyed weapon cannot be repaired. Nonmagical ammunition is destroyed if it hits metal armor1.

Magic Weapons[edit]

Magic Weapons that are made of obsidian have the ability to heal themselves from damage caused by the Brittle rule above. Ignore the Brittle rule for magic weapons made of obsidian.

The Sharp property of obsidian weapon does not stack with any magical bonuses (use the higher bonus).

Notes[edit]

1 Or other hard armor, such as dragon scale.
