Magical darkness is a special form of darkness such as created by the darkness spell or similar magic. It has some additional properties: A creature with darkvision can’t see through magical darkness, and nonmagical light can’t illuminate it. If any of this darkness's area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled.
