Sentient Transmutation[edit]

An animate objects spell, come to life.

Personality[edit]

As a sentient magical effect, sentient transmutations don't have many commonalities in terms of personality.

Physical Description[edit]

When a piece of furniture suddenly sprouts eyes and a mouth, you can be pretty sure it's the one the Sentient Transmutation is inhabiting right now.

Relations[edit]

It could be handy to have a sentient transmutation as a friend, they don't really form a united group for diplomatic relations.

Alignment[edit]

Sentient transmutations are slightly more often Lawful than Chaotic.

Lands[edit]

Sentient transmutations tend to avoid places that have few objects, like the planes of air and negative energy. They're actually rather common on the planes of positive energy and mechanus, and may even spontaneously get created there fairly often.

Religion[edit]

Deities of crafting or life are often popular.

Language[edit]

Common

Names[edit]

Often they have names that are basic functions but with "y" appended to the end, like Comfy or Sporty.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • N/A Strength, N/A Dexterity, No Constitution: As a special form of Animated Object, they use the physical ability scores of the animated object they currently inhabit.
  • Construct: Sentient Transmutations are a type of animated object and thus are constructs like animated objects are.
  • Animating Force: The Sentient Transmutation inhabits one object at a time, animating it as per animate objects with a caster level equal to the Sentient Transmutation's level, but Permanent with the sentient transmutation's mental ability scores, skills, feats, base attack bonus, base saving throws, maximum HP, and class features. While animating an object, the object has two eyes and a mouth. It can pretend to be a normal object by keeping its eyes and mouth closed, as a Hide or Disguise check opposed by Spot.
  • Transfer Essence (Sp): As a Standard action, the Sentient Transmutation can transfer itself to a touched unattended object, animating it as per animate objects and causing the object it left to revert to normalcy. Any spell effects created by the Sentient Transmutation are controlled by the Sentient Transmutation and not by the specific object it happens to inhabit. Total damage taken and status effects are transferred to the new object. The Sentient Transmutation can even transfer itself to an already animated object to take it over, but the animated object's caster may make a Will save (DC 10 + three quarters character level) to resist, preventing the Sentient Transmutation from trying to take over any animated objects of that caster for 1 hour.
  • Broken, but not Destroyed (Su): If the animated object the Sentient Transmutation is inhabiting is destroyed, the Sentient Transmutation is stuck and unconscious until the object is repaired. If the animate objects effect is dispelled, the Sentient Transmutation loses the ability to do anything other than use Transfer Essence.
  • Automatic Languages: Common.
