Shadow Paladin

Not all Paladins fight in the light, some prefer the cover of the shadow to do their work. These paladins have a mildly different code of conduct, allowing them to associate with evil creature and later take them out with lies and poison. Those Paladins know that in in light's triumph against the darkness, there will always be shadows.

Class: Paladin or Pathfinder Paladin

Level: 1st-19th

Replaces: A Shadow Paladin's hit dice is a d8 instead of a d10 and they do not gain the Divine Health class features. A SRD Paladin do not gain Remove Disease and Turn Undead and a Pathfinder Paladin lose Channel Energy.

Benefit: A Shadow paladin receive the following class features:

Skills: The paladin's skill list and skill points changes to the following; (6 + Int modifier) Appraise (Int), Balance (Dex), Bluff (Cha), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Disable Device (Int), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Forgery (Int), Gather Information (Cha), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (nobility) (Int), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Knowledge (the planes) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Open Lock (Dex), Perform (Cha), Profession (Wis), Search (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Sleight of Hand (Dex), Spot (Wis), Swim (Str), Tumble (Dex), Use Magic Device (Cha), Use Rope (Dex).

Code of Conduct: A Shadow paladin add one of the following clause to his Code of Conduct:

  • Must not kill an evildoers you can bring to justice instead. This only apply to sapient creature and usually not to evil undead and fiends, usually.
  • Must not be taking credit for your good work, this usually involve adopting an alias or even second identity.
  • Must help the victims of evil before seeking to defeat the evil itself, unless doing so would do more harm than good.

A Shadow Paladin may associate with creatures of any alignment as long as he do no harm and is no longer require to act with honor when dealing with evil creatures.

Bonus Feats: A Shadow paladin receive Improved Unarmed Strike and Weapon Finesse as bonus feats, even if he do not meet the prerequisites. If he already possess Improved Unarmed Strike he gain Superior Unarmed StrikeToB instead.

Ruthless Stealth (Ex): A 3rd level Shadow Paladin reduce the Armor Check Penalty of his Armor by 5 for the purpose of using the Hide and Move Silently, he does not suffer the -10 penalty to Move Silently or Hide for moving at his full normal speed. He still suffers the normal -20 penalties to hide and move silently for running or fighting if he performs those actions. Finally he gain Throat Punch as a bonus feat.

Silent Mount (Su): A 5th level Shadow Paladin's Special Mount make no sound when moving, automatically succeeding Move Silently checks. Attacking and other actions make sounds as normal.

Declare Smite: A 6th level Shadow paladin gain Declare Smite as bonus feat.

Hide in Plain Sight (Su): At 8th level, an Shadow Paladin can use the Hide skill even while being observed. As long as he is within 10 feet of some sort of shadow, an shadow Paladin can hide himself from view in the open without having anything to actually hide behind.
