Spectral Harbinger

Some unlucky individuals sometimes stumble upon haunted objects while scourging the local antiquarians, inheriting the possession of a strange uncle, or even creating such items themselves in a baleful rites. No matter the case, the spectral harbinger is in possession of an item inhabited by a powerful spirit. The spirit, incapable of escaping its prison often has to deal with the occultist, creating a working relationship between both. Some of these spirits are quite evil and destructive, and the spectral harbinger needs to keep them in check with threats of sealing.

Class: Occultist

Level: 1st, 4th

Replaces: Necromancy Implement, Shift Focus, Implement (6th and 18th))

Benefit: A spectral harbinger gain the following class feature.

Armor and Weapon Proficiency: A spectral harbinger is proficient with all simple weapons and light armor (but no shield).

Base Attack Bonus: A spectral harbinger's base attack bonus is equal to half her character level.

Implement: A spectral harbinger must choose the necromancy implement as one of her first level implements.

Sealed Phantom Implement: A spectral harbinger does not gain the normal base or resonant power from her necromancy implement. Instead she gains a phantom, using her occultist level as her spiritualist level. This phantom has no emotional focus and has two good saves of the occultist's choice. The phantom may be of a different alignment than the spectral harbinger, but always obey its master, as it can be easily sealed back.

Unlike a spiritualist's phantom, a spectral harbinger's phantom is always summoned as a standard action, costing 1 point of mental focus invested in the implement. After 1 hour, the phantom is immediately sealed once again. The phantom can be sealed early as a standard action, or an immediate action by spending 1 point of mental focus invested in the implement. If the phantom is sealed without being destroyed, the spectral harbinger regains 1 point of mental focus invested in her necromancy implement. The spectral harbinger must have the implement on herself to summon her phantom.

The phantom is never harbored in the spectral harbinger's mind, but is instead sealed in a unique necromancy implement (such as a spirit lamp, urn or else). While sealed and its implement in the spectral harbinger's possession, the phantom provides the spectral harbinger all benefits of being harbored her mind. This ability only functions if the implement has 1 or more points of mental focus invested into it. The phantom can telepathically communicate with anyone holding the implement. If the phantom is destroyed, it is not banished, instead it returns to its sealed state and cannot be unleashed again until the spectral harbinger next rests to regain her spells from the day. If the implement is destroyed, then the phantom is banished to the ethereal plane as normal. The spectral harbinger must conduct a ritual over the course of 24 hours to bind the phantom to a new implement. This can be done if the previous implement is destroyed or lost.

While manifested in ectoplasmic form, the phantom gains the benefits of all of the occultist's resonant powers. The phantom may use any of the spectral harbinger's class feature and focus power tied to her necromancy implement, using the mental focus placed within it necromancy implement.

This ability alters the necromancy implement and the implement gained at 6th level and 18th level.

Spiritual Interference (Ex) or (Su): This ability functions as the spiritualist ability of the same name.

This ability replaces shift focus.
