Weird Stuff[edit]

Why CR5? It only has 4 hit dice, and most creatures have more hit dice than CR unless they have a really bizarre and awesome special thing (for reference, animals only advance +1 CR per 3 additional hit dice, so you've got room for some more here, like twice as much).

How'd you get his attack bonus up to +15? He only gets +3 from his hit dice, +3 from Str, and -2 from size... so where's the other +11?

Looks like he's missing a feat as well. - TarkisFlux 17:38, August 27, 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't thinking. I might have made all of these same mistakes with all of my dinos... Mistakes like these are why I need help. Heck, I don't even know where to find the ability modifier table. Halen2020 18:32, August 27, 2010 (UTC)
Also, how many feats do animals get?Halen2020 18:45, August 27, 2010 (UTC)
You'd be well served by treating monsters as just NPCs with levels in [monster type] at the beginning. So this guy has 4 (his current number of hit dice) levels in SRD:Animal Type right now, which gives him a base attack bonus, some save stuff, some skill points (to spend on basically whatever), etc. He gets feats just like characters do: 1 at the start and then another one every 3 levels.
After you have that basic stuff down, you go through and give them any extra feats you think they still need (marked with a B to indicate bonusness), fiddle with their attributes to get what you want, set their attack damage (there are guidelines somewhere if you want them), give them some special tricks or whatever (like trample, something similar to a dragon's tail sweep might be cool too), et voila! Completed monster. - TarkisFlux 20:18, August 27, 2010 (UTC)
