Cosmogenesis vs. history + other problems.[edit]
There are a host of what appear to be typos and other inconsistancies in this piece, and even after paragraphing, I might want to go through and fix a lot of stuff. I also think that this would go better under cosmology, specifically cosmogenesis. This is how reality started, not really "history" in the conventional sense. Your page on the races and stuff has bits of the sort of history that is relevant to players. Perhaps move this and add in the stuff going on that most modern humans know and care about. Or if this is that relevant, show how it's relevant and important to a player now. Oh, and may I have free rein to fix typos and stuff in your setting? Please? -- Aelaris 17:51, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Some things which I would recommend that you fix/clarify:
- Why is "Zero Verse" two words, and why are they capitalized? It's meant to be derived from "universe" and "multiverse", yes?
- What is a "realmscape"? From the context, I would guess you mean "nothingness", but "realm" means place, and "-scape" is a suffix indicating a place made out of the prefix. Landscape, seascape, dreamscape; a place of land, a place of sea, a place of dreams. So "realmscape" would mean "a place of place", and you're using it to refer to no place at all.
- Newrok is The Creator's ability to learn. To learn something, you must be able to remember it, so it can be assumed that Newrok also has his ability to remember things extraordinarily well. So why does he set out to learn everything about the thing that he himself made and should remember?
- If Wodah is his intellect, and the intellect is the part of you that figures things out, why is he the only one who can't figure out what to do with his time?
- Why did the intellect think it was a good idea to send goblins against werewolves? Sure, he had the numbers to win, but a better choice of race would have been far more efficient.
- What are "mana-magiks"?
- Why are you inconsistent in your spelling of "magic"? Is there a distinction between "magic" and "magik"?
- Why is the naming convention of these "Verses" inconsistent? First it's <Number> Verse, then Verse <Number>, then <Ordinal> Verse.
- Try to refer to Newrok/Zan/Shadow's name consistent in the article. If he changes what he calls himself, fine, but if you change how you refer to him it gets hard to keep track of who he is.
- If these events didn't occur in the Prime Material Plane, where did they occur?
- Why does so much of history follow Jason and his family? Jason seems like a very insignificant character in the grand scheme of the world. It starts with a creation myth about the whole world and quickly loses sight of the purpose of mythology: to explain why the world is the way it is.
- Where did Oblivion come from? What is the opposite of Newrok's power?
- Please run through the spelling and grammar of the whole page and try to fix it up a bit.
- I really don't know how to say this nicely, but please belive that I mean it as constructive criticism: a lot of the names you're using are, for lack of a better word, lame. I suggest taking a bit more time in naming things.
- If you enter the IRC Chat (the link is to the left, under "Community"), I'm sure you'll be able to find plenty of advice on these things and more. --DanielDraco 18:19, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, to answer some questions. Zero Verse is "time before creation" if you will. It was when most creation (some takes place after as it explains) took place.
- 2nd, I have always used realmscape interchangeably with planescape.
- 3rd, Newrok does have a good memory, but he isn't the creator. The post explains that he (the Creator) was split into three beings (Newrok, Wodhas, and Rage). These three all retained something from the Creator. Newrok gained the power to create, but to create you need to learn.
- 4th, Wodahs may be the intelligence, but as any intelligent person in school (I'm not trying to say you weren't, just the really intelligent one, almost geeks) can tell you, after awhile, your intelligence just leads to boredom because of lack of mental stimulation.
- 5th, Mana-Magiks are the magiks that are now used by spell casters, coming off of an internal mana source (such as a a spell per day list HINT), as the post says, they are now known as just magic (either Arcane or Divine)
- 6th, The post says that the culture has changed the spelling form using a "k" to using a "c"
- 7th, I'll start working on the date problem after I post this.
- 8 thing, I kept revering to him by the different names to show how he (the "character") evolved over the years. Also, I personally, find it confusing when you say someone changed his name to this, but they still refer to him as that.
- 9th, They occur on many different planes, many were destroyed in the battles, or shortly after because of how unstable they became.
- 10, Who is Jason? If you mean James, he himself, never really plays a big part of any story.
- 11, No one in the campaign knows where Oblivion came from. He always kept it to himself. I purposely left this up to the GM to add his own flavor. I personally am doing it where he was incarnated from the unstable energies when the Creator destroyed himself.
- 12th (almost done!), As for the names, I thank you for your input, but I am keeping the names the same. If you decide to use this world (or part of its story) feel free to edit the names in your house rules.
- 13th (yes, I know I missed the "complaint")Wodahs used an ancestor to goblinkin not goblins. This is done on purpose as many things were lost to time, such as what the creature was. Only the specific items could last so long. Look at many of our religions, they all share a world flood, but they argue what caused it, how long it took for it to start, and why it happened.
- To end, sorry about the long post and how long it took me to notice there were problem with this. --Dukelzan
