I've turned around on this one. See, because it scales with a creature's CR it helps stamp out minion abuse with suicide bombers. So... so it's ok. |
Too Cheap
500g for Doublestrength Death Throes, constant, extraordinary, yada yada, see other Talk pages. -- Eiji-kun 17:37, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- I think the key difference with this one is the fact that anyone who takes this is paying for the ability to commit suicide as part of what is essentially a one-use item. 500 gp also stretches someone's wealth when they only have 900 gp to spend under the CWBL at level 1. So I'm not sure the argument for cost works so well on this graft. - TG Cid 21:54, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'm concerned about suicide bomber tactics (they exist, looking at you Jade Phoenix Mages and Thrallherds who are grafting your mooks). Though, fair point. Idea- scale the pricing. Like.... needs 200g for a 1d6 blast (pulling numbers outta my bum here).... and you can augment it later easily, adding additional explodie-spores of goodness so that 40d6 costs much more than 200g, like 6000g, whatever. I don't know how to scale it atm (sleepy) but what do you think of the concept? It would make sense that more sac-bits would have a bigger explosion. -- Eiji-kun 22:59, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- And yet more tl;dr arguments. First of all, it is by definition not constant - dying is pretty damn permanent! Secondly, it's not extraordinary either - grafts are magic items like any other. Lastly, scaling effect by cost isn't really a workable idea here, as what this will mean is that people will just buy it well above their level and do crazy shit with numbers they were never meant to have.
- Secondly, this is an item balanced for a 3rd level character. All of the above is completely in-line with what a 3rd level character, given the wizard level of balance, can do. The price given for it is a reasonable fraction of the total wealth by level for a 3rd level character (19%, to be exact), and if we examine it in terms of wealth growth between 2nd level and 3rd level, it's about 28% of that. Combined with the fact that items in general are priced in a retarded fashion, your objections seem strange in the extreme. - MisterSinister 04:54, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
